The Long Walk - 100Km

The idea for the “walk for kids” project came about one July afternoon during a walk around North Lakes. Matt was looking for motivation to walk further and the idea of doing a walk to raise money for a children’s charity seemed the logical choice.

With his fellow Rotarians at the Rotary Club of North Lakes they talked about the opportunity to promote the Club in the Community, join with some local businesses and raise some much needed funds for a worthy cause – The Mater Children’s Hospital.

The distance was set at 100 kilometres!!

Matt was very involved in the new club, introducing 5 new members and taking on the role of Charter President – amongst other things.
Being a local for 5 years and with a wife & three kids it seemed a natural choice that Matt move into the position of Youth Director for the next Rotary year (2009-10).

One of the Club’s newer members will accompany Matt on the walk. Rob Needham is the club’s Sergeant and Publicity Officer. Rob also has close ties to the Mater Foundation. He is their Development Manager and was also involved in one of their more recent Projects, the “House4life”, which sold for over $650,000.00 with proceeds going to the Mater's Neonatal Critical Care Unit. Rob is very passionate about the Mater and the great work they do, having a young family of his own.
